Best CSE Colleges Through CSAB Counselling
CSAB Special Rounds provide another admission opportunity for candidates seeking seats in NITs, IIEST Shibpur, IIITs, SPAs and Other Government Funded Technical Institutes after the completion of JoSAA counselling. These rounds are conducted only for seats that remain vacant in the NIT+ System after all five JoSAA 2026 rounds.
Computer Science and Engineering is generally one of the most preferred engineering programmes. Therefore, the availability of CSE seats in CSAB depends entirely on institute-wise and programme-wise vacancies left after JoSAA. Candidates should not assume that a college will offer CSE in CSAB merely because it participated in CSAB in a previous year.
CSAB 2026 registration and choice filling started on July 28, 2026 at 10:00 AM. Registration and Special Round Enrolment Fee payment close on August 3, 2026 at 10:00 AM. Choice filling and locking close on August 5, 2026 at 2:00 PM.

Important: IIIT Hyderabad and IIIT Delhi
IIIT Hyderabad and IIIT Delhi are not part of the JoSAA or CSAB Special Round institute list. Candidates interested in these institutes must follow their respective admission processes.
IIIT Hyderabad conducts admission through multiple channels notified by the institute, while IIIT Delhi primarily conducts B.Tech admission through JAC Delhi and other institute-notified admission modes. Candidates should check the respective institute admission portals for programme-wise eligibility and application rules.
Top NITs Offering CSE Through CSAB
NITs can offer CSE through CSAB only when seats remain vacant after JoSAA. The presence of an institute in CSAB does not guarantee that its CSE programme will have a vacancy in every category, quota or gender pool.
Highly preferred NITs such as NIT Tiruchirappalli, NIT Karnataka Surathkal and NIT Warangal may have very limited or no CSE vacancies in a particular CSAB year. Candidates can include these programmes in their preference list only when they appear in the official list of available choices.
Other NITs may provide comparatively more CSE opportunities depending on the vacancies displayed for 2026. Candidates should compare each programme using the official 2025 opening and closing rank tool rather than relying on a broad institute-level cutoff range.

For NIT programmes, the counselling system applies the relevant Home State or Other State quota based on the candidate’s State of Eligibility. Candidates do not have to create separate HS and OS versions of the same institute-programme choice.
Closing ranks must be compared within the same quota. An Other State closing rank should not be directly used to estimate admission chances under the Home State quota or vice versa.

Top IIITs Offering CSE Through CSAB
Several IIITs participate in the NIT+ System and may offer CSE or closely related programmes through CSAB when vacancies remain after JoSAA. However, candidates should check the exact programme name because some IIITs offer Information Technology, Computer Science and Business, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science or Mathematics and Computing instead of a conventional CSE programme.
Unlike most NITs, IIIT seat pools are generally allotted through All India quota rather than Home State and Other State quotas. However, candidates must still check the exact quota, category and gender-pool information displayed in the official seat matrix.

The term IIIT does not represent one uniform administrative model. Some IIITs are centrally funded institutions, while several newer IIITs operate under a public-private partnership model. Their fee structures, campuses, programme structures and placement outcomes can differ.
Candidates should use official institute sources to compare programme curriculum, tuition fees, hostel facilities, internship opportunities and branch-specific placement information.

Top GFTIs Offering CSE Through CSAB
Other Government Funded Technical Institutes participating in CSAB may offer CSE and related programmes when seats remain vacant after JoSAA. The participating-institute list can change, so candidates should use the official CSAB Special institute list for the current session.
Institute quality, fee structure, funding model, campus facilities and placement outcomes vary considerably across the Other-GFTI group. Candidates should therefore compare each institute separately instead of treating all GFTIs as one admission tier.

CSAB CSE Cutoffs for Top Colleges
CSAB opening and closing ranks must be read carefully. The official 2025 rank portal states that the displayed ranks are All India CRL ranks and cover candidates who received a fresh allotment or an upgraded allotment in the selected CSAB round.
A closing rank should only be used when all of the following fields match the candidate’s situation:
- Institute
- Academic programme
- CSAB round
- Quota
- Seat category
- Gender pool
- Allotment type displayed by the portal
Cutoff Field |
What It Means |
How to Use It |
|---|---|---|
Opening Rank |
The highest-ranked candidate within the selected seat-pool data |
Use it only as a historical reference, not as the minimum rank required |
Closing Rank |
The last rank shown for the selected institute-programme and seat pool |
Compare it with the same category, quota, gender pool and round |
Seat Category |
OPEN, GEN-EWS, OBC-NCL, SC, ST or applicable PwD category |
Do not compare an OPEN cutoff directly with a reserved seat-category cutoff |
Quota |
Home State, Other State or another institute-specific quota |
Select the quota that applies to the candidate’s State of Eligibility |
Gender Pool |
Gender-Neutral or Female-only, including supernumerary where applicable |
Compare ranks only within the relevant gender pool |
Round |
The selected CSAB Special allotment round |
Round 1 and Round 2 ranks should not be merged into one unsupported range |
Candidates should not use a fixed multiplier to convert an OPEN closing rank into an OBC-NCL, SC, ST or GEN-EWS cutoff. Category-wise rank movement is not uniform and depends on the actual vacancy, institute, programme, quota, gender pool and candidate demand.
The 2025 opening and closing ranks can help candidates identify ambitious, realistic and safer choices, but they cannot guarantee the CSAB 2026 result.

CSE Colleges Available at Low JEE Main Ranks
There is no single JEE Main rank above which CSE becomes unavailable through CSAB. Availability changes according to category, quota, gender pool, institute, programme and the number of seats remaining after JoSAA.
Candidates with higher numerical ranks can broaden their list using the following factual approach:
- Check CSE vacancies at every participating NIT, IIIT and Other-GFTI displayed in the official choice portal.
- Include Information Technology where the curriculum and placement opportunities suit your career goals.
- Consider Artificial Intelligence, Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, Data Science, Mathematics and Computing, Computer Engineering and other computing-related programmes where available.
- Compare programme curriculum rather than assuming every CSE-related branch is academically identical.
- Check institute fees, campus facilities, programme restrictions and placement information from official institute sources.
- Include safer options below your preferred choices because there is no penalty for adding more valid programmes to the choice list.
A CSE-related programme at a stronger institute may be more suitable than conventional CSE at another institute, but this depends on the candidate’s career goals. Information Technology may closely overlap with CSE at some institutes, while Mathematics and Computing can include substantially more mathematics. Electronics and Computing may contain both electronics and computing subjects.
Candidates should read the official curriculum rather than selecting a branch solely because its title contains the word “computer.”
How to Choose the Best CSE College in CSAB
The first step is to prepare a realistic shortlist based on your JEE Main CRL, seat category, State of Eligibility, gender pool and preferred programmes. The Cracku CSAB College Predictor can be used to compare these details with historical CSAB closing-rank data.
Start with the official vacancy list.
The official vacancies were displayed on July 28, 2026 before registration and choice filling. Only institute-programme combinations available in the CSAB portal can be selected. Do not prepare the final list using an old participating-institute list alone.
Arrange choices in genuine preference order.
The counselling system considers choices in the order submitted by the candidate. Place the institute-programme combination you most want above less-preferred combinations. Do not place a safer option higher merely because its previous closing rank is closer to your rank.
Do not create separate Home State and Other State choices.
The applicable quota is determined from the candidate’s credentials and the seat allocation rules. Candidates select the institute and programme shown in the choice-filling system, and the appropriate eligible seat pools are considered by the system.
Fill a sufficiently broad choice list.
CSAB allows candidates to add as many available choices as they wish in their preferred order. Adding more acceptable choices can improve the possibility of allotment. However, candidates should not add an institute or programme they are unwilling to join.
Compare programme-specific information.
Use official institute websites to compare tuition fees, fee-waiver rules, curriculum, laboratories, hostel facilities, internships, campus location and placement opportunities. CSAB specifically advises candidates to obtain this information directly from the institutes before choice filling.
Understand what happens to a retained JoSAA seat.
A candidate who secured an NIT+ seat through JoSAA and paid the Partial Admission Fee may participate in CSAB while retaining that seat. However, if a new seat is allotted in CSAB, the retained JoSAA seat is automatically cancelled and cannot be reclaimed.
Lock choices before the deadline.
Choice filling and locking close on August 5, 2026 at 2:00 PM. The last saved choices will be automatically locked by the system if the candidate does not manually lock them before the deadline.

Best CSE Colleges Through CSAB Counselling: Conclusion
The best CSE college available through CSAB depends on the actual 2026 vacancy list and the candidate’s rank, category, State of Eligibility, gender pool and preference order. A famous institute may have no CSE vacancy, while another participating institute may offer CSE or a suitable computing-related programme in the candidate’s applicable seat pool.
Candidates should use the official vacancy matrix, institute-wise programme information and properly filtered 2025 opening and closing ranks to prepare their choices. Unsupported rank ranges, category multipliers and assumed vacancies should not be used for admission decisions.
A practical CSAB list should contain ambitious, realistic and safer choices arranged strictly according to genuine preference. Candidates should also consider suitable programmes such as Information Technology, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Computer Engineering and Mathematics and Computing after reviewing their official curricula and placement information.
