IIT Roorkee MBA Selection Criteria 2025: IIT Roorkee offers a two-year residential Master of Business Administration (MBA) program, extended over eight terms. The curriculum is structured to impart a sound understanding of the basic management principles in the first year and higher learning and specialized skills in the last year. IIT Roorkee MBA program admission is largely based on CAT scores, and then there is a Personal Interview (PI) round.

However, IIT students who have scored a CGPA of 7 and higher on a 10-point scale are exempt from the first shortlisting and are directly invited to the PI round. The eligibility criteria and selection process for the MBA course at IIT Roorkee are included below in the article.

IIT Roorkee MBA Selection Criteria

The IIT Roorkee MBA program offers a total of 95 seats. These are distributed as 38 for Unreserved (General), 10 for GEN-EWS, 26 for OBC-NCL, 14 for SC, and 7 for ST candidates.

  • Shortlisted candidates will be called for Group Discussion (GD) and Personal Interview (PI).
  • Call letters will be sent via email, and the list will be available on the department’s web page.
  • Interview Locations: Roorkee, Greater Noida, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Kolkata (venue may differ from preferred choice).

IIT Roorkee MBA Selection Process

Admission Rounds

  • Admissions may be conducted in multiple rounds if necessary.
  • Candidates must be ready with fees and documents on short notice.

Category I (Graduates applying based on CAT 2024 Score)

  • CAT Score Weightage: 60%
  • Personal Interview Weightage: 30%
  • Work Experience Weightage: 10%

Category II (IIT Graduates admitted via JEE or JEE Advanced)

  • CAT Score: Not Mandatory
  • Shortlisting Based on: 100% Personal Interview

Admission Offer & Registration

  • Admission is based on overall performance (merit list).
  • Provisional admission offers will be sent via email and published on the IITR website.
  • Candidates must deposit the full fee by the deadline mentioned in the offer letter.

Fee Refund Policy

  • No refund for students who register but do not join or leave after joining.
  • Only the security deposit and mess balance will be refunded.

Admission Cancellation

  • Admission may be cancelled if a candidate is found ineligible at any stage.
  • All admission-related disputes fall under the jurisdiction of Roorkee.

IIT Roorkee MBA Application Process

Before applying, candidates must carefully read the "Information Brochure for MBA Admission 2025" and follow these steps:

  1. Access the application link: MBA Admission Portal
  2. Click on "MBA Admission 2025-26 - Apply Online."
  3. Register and create login credentials.
  4. Complete the Application Form with accurate details.
  5. Pay the Application Fee via the "Proceed for Payment" option.
  6. Download and keep a copy of the application form for future reference (No need to send it to IIT Roorkee).
  7. After submission, candidates will receive a unique application ID to be used for all future correspondence.

Note: The CAT Registration Number and Percentile must be correctly entered. Any discrepancy may lead to cancellation without further notice.

Important Notes:

IIT Roorkee MBA Shortlisting Criteria

General Eligibility:

  • A graduate degree or a professional qualification equivalent to a university degree recognized by UGC, in any discipline.
  • Minimum marks required: 60% (or equivalent CGPA) for General/OBC/EWS and 55% for SC/ST/PwD candidates.
  • A valid CAT 2024 score is mandatory.

Final Year Students:

  • Final-year students are eligible to apply.
  • If selected, admission will be provisional until they fulfil all degree requirements with the minimum required percentage or CGPA by the specified deadline.
  • The percentage/CGPA will be considered based on aggregate marks awarded in the qualifying degree.

Exemption for IIT Graduates:

  • Candidates who graduated from IITs (admitted through IIT-JEE) with a CGPA of 7.0 or above (on a 10-point scale) are exempted from CAT 2024 requirements.

Golden Girl Scheme (For Female Candidates)

  • Eligibility: Direct admission for female candidates who are First Rank Holders (Gold Medalists) from an IIT or a Top 50 NIRF-ranked institute/university (most recent year).
  • Relaxation: Exempted from national-level entrance exams, but all other institute requirements apply.
  • Intake: Supernumerary (additional seats).

Note: Final-year students are not eligible for this scheme.

Full-Time Sponsored Candidates

  • Must have 2+ years of full-time work experience in a registered firm, public/private company, educational institution, or government/autonomous organization.
  • The employer must meet financial criteria (e.g., turnover above ₹5 crore in the last two years).

International Candidates

  • Must meet general eligibility criteria.
  • Those without CAT 2024 or IIT-JEE-based CGPA exemption should check IIT Roorkee's International Relations website (ir.iitr.ac.in) for application details.
  • Admissions are processed separately from regular MBA seats.
