Comprehension:
On the basis of the given passage, answer the questions that follow:
Studies on growth and development of infants emphasize the importance of good nutrition, a healthy environment and parent education. The development of the child has been found to be positively related to stimulation at home. High and low stimulation homes were characterized on the basis of leisure-time activities of parents, availability of toys, space and books. Children were rated on activity level and social, emotional, intellectual, motor and language development. Children from homes high on stimulation scored higher on four of the six aspects studied: activity level, social, language and intellectual development. Significant differences between adequately and non-adequately nourished children were observed on height, weight and intelligence, all measures favouring the well-nourished group_ On most measures, the inadequately nourished group also showed greater variation than the adequately nourished group.

Of the 1000 inhabitants of a town, 60% are males of whom 20% are literate. If, of all the inhabitants, 25% are literate-then what percent of the females of the town are literate?
Of the 1000 inhabitants of a town, 60% are males of whom 20% are literate.
So, Males is 600. And Females will be 400.
20% of males are literate, 20% of 600 will be 120. So 120 males are literate and 480 females are illiterate.
If overall 25% are literate. Total literate people will be 250.
Out of this we are told 120 are male, so 130 will be female.

Among the given three numbers, the second is twice the first and is also thrice the third, if the average of three numbers is 55, Find the largest number?
Let us assume the 2nd number to be 6X.
1st number = 6X/2 = 3X and 3rd number = 6X/3 = 2X.
Average = $$\frac{6X+3X+2X}{3}=\frac{11X}{3}$$.
This average is 55.
$$\frac{11X}{3}=55$$ ==> X = 15.
The largest number = 6X = 90.

A and B together can complete a work in 12 days. A alone can complete it in 20 days. If B does the work only for half a day daily then in how many days A and B together will complete the work?
Let us assume the total work = 60 units.
Efficiency of A = 60/20 = 3 units per day.
Efficiency of A and B together = 60/12 = 5 units per day.
Efficiency of B = 5 - 3 = 2 units per day.
Now B works for only half a day which implies that B's efficiency becomes 2/2 = 1 unit per day.
Combined efficiency of A and B = 3+1 = 4 units per day.
Time taken to finish the work = 60/4 = 15 days.

On January 12, 1980, it was Saturday. The day of the week on January 12, 1979 was -
To solve this, we look at the number of "odd days" between the two dates. Since we are moving from January 12, 1980, back to January 12, 1979, we are traversing exactly one year.
Although 1980 is a leap year, the "extra day" (February 29) falls after January 12, so it isn't counted in this specific interval; therefore, we only subtract 1 odd day (365 days = 52 weeks + 1 day). Subtracting one day from Saturday gives us Friday.

Three taps A, B and C can fill a tank in 12 , 15 and 20 hours respectively.If A is opened all the time ,and B and C are opened for one hour each alternately, the tank will be full in :
Let us assume the quantity of tank to be 60 L i.e. the LCM of 12, 15 and 20.
Efficiencies of pipes A, B and C are 5, 4 and 3 L per hr resepectively.
Efficiency on hour 1 = A + B = 9 L per hr.
Efficiency on hour 2 = A + C = 8 L per hr.
In 2 hrs, 9+8 = 17 L of water is filled.
In 6 hrs i.e. 3 cycles, 17*3 = 51 L of water will be filled.
The remaining 9 L will be filled by A + B on the next hour thus filling the tank in 6+1 = 7 hours.

In three vessels each of 50 litres capacity, mixture of milk and water is filled. The ratio's of milk and water are 1 : 2, 3 : 1 and 3 : 2 in the three respective vessels. If all the three vessels are emptied into a single vessel. find the proportion of milk and water in the mixture?
In the 1st vessel, milk = $$\frac{1}{3}\times\ 50=\frac{50}{3}L$$
In the 2nd vessel, milk = $$\frac{3}{4}\times\ 50=\frac{75}{2}L\ $$
In the 3rd vessel, milk = $$\frac{3}{5}\times\ 50=30L\ $$.
Total milk in the mixture = $$\frac{50}{3}+\frac{75}{2}+30\ =\frac{100+225+180}{6}=\frac{505}{6}L\ $$.
Water = Total - milk = $$150-\frac{505}{6}=\frac{395}{6}\ L$$.
Ratio of milk and water = $$\frac{505}{6}:\frac{395}{6}=101:79$$.

The salaries of A, B, C are in the ratio 3:4:5. If the increments of 10%, 20% and 50% are allowed respectively in their salaries, then what will be the new ratio of their salaries?
Let the salaries of A, B and C be 3, 4 and 5 respectively.
After giving them respective increments of 10%, 20% and 50%, their new salaries are
A => 3 * 1.1 = 3.3
B => 4 * 1.2 = 4.8
C => 5 * 1.5 = 7.5
The new ratio of their salaries = 3.3 : 4.8 : 7.5 = 11:16:25.
Walking 5/6 th of his usual speed, a man is 10 min late. The usual time taken by him to cover that distance is:
Let us assume that his original speed and time are S and T mins respectively.
Now, walking at $$\frac{5S}{6}$$ speed, he takes T + 10 mins.
We know that for a constant distance, ratio of speeds is inverse to the ratio of tme taken.
$$\frac{S}{\frac{5S}{6}}=\frac{T+10}{T}$$
This gives T = 50 mins.

Let us assume that R invests 3X amount.
Q invests two-thirds of what R invests which means that Q invests 2X.
P invests 3 times as much as Q invests which means that P invest 6X.
The ratio in which P, Q and R should split profits is 6:2:3.
Q's share in profit = $$\frac{2}{6+2+3}\times\ 8800=1600$$.

The perimeter of square is 48cm. The area of a rectangle is 4 $$cm^{2}$$ less than the area of the square .If the length of the rectangle is 14 cm. then its perimeter is:
Perimeter of square: 4 × side length = 48 cm → side length = 12 cm.
Area of square: Square of the side length = 12^2 = 144 cm^2
Area of rectangle: 4 cm^2 less than the area of the square, i.e. 144 - 4 = 140 cm^2
Area = length × width
Length = 14 cm
Area = 140
So, width = 140/14 = 10 cm
Perimeter of rectangle: 2 × (14+10) = 48 cm
