Question 92

Find the population of villages S if the population of village X below poverty line in 1997 is 12160.

Solution

It is given that if the population of village X below poverty line in 1997 is 12160.

Assuming population of village X is = N

We know that 38% population of village X is below povery line in 1997.

Thus, 38% of N = 12160

N = 12160/0.38 = 32000

Of all the villages population combined, the population of village X is 16% of the total populations of all villages combined.

Assuming total population of all villages combined is M

Thus, 16% of M = 32000

M = 200000

Now, we need to find the population of village S, which is 11% of Ttotal population, which is

11% of 200000 = 22000
