The sum of two numbers is 80 and their difference is 8. What is the ratio of the two numbers?
Solution
Let the numbers be $$x$$ and $$y$$
Sum = $$x+y=80$$ ----------(i)
Difference = $$x-y=8$$ -----------(ii)
Adding both equations, => $$2x=80+8=88$$
=> $$x=\frac{88}{2}=44$$
Similarly, $$y=36$$
$$\therefore$$ $$\frac{x}{y}=\frac{44}{36}$$
=> $$x:y=11:9$$
=> Ans - (C)
