Let list price = Rs. $$100x$$
After first discount of 50%, price = $$100x \times \frac{(100-50)}{100}=50x$$
After second discount of 10%, price = $$50x \times \frac{(100-10)}{100}=45x$$
=> Equivalent discount = $$\frac{100x-45x}{100x} \times 100$$
= $$55\%$$
