How Mohit Cracked CAT 2024 With 99.6 Percentile in 2 Months

Coming from a small town in Rajasthan, Mohit was a Chartered Accountant by profession and took the daring step to sit for CAT with merely two months of preparation which truly reveals the power of determination, smart strategy, and concentrated effort.

Achieving a remarkable 99.6 percentile in CAT 2024 in his first attempt, Mohit’s story is not only motivating but also loaded with practical and informative tips for every MBA aspirant aiming high this season.

Mohit’s Academic Profile & Early Life

Mohit, coming from Jhunjhunu - a small town in Rajasthan around 200 km from Jaipur, was always the topmost student. He obtained a perfect score in Class X and then a 93.6% in Class XII (science stream). His strong academic background and family business in pharmacy did not stop him from finally taking up commerce as the subject of his choice led on by his curiosity. The next stop? Chartered Accountancy, in which he bagged All India Rank 39 in the CA Foundation.

Mohit proceeded with his BCom from Shekhawati University (74.7%) and at the same time, got a Diploma in Pharmacy in 2022, all before passing his Final CA in November 2023. He was a Senior Associate in a medium-sized company involved in income tax and economic crimes cases, including ED and money laundering cases which showed that varied professional experience is highly sought after in MBA admissions.

Why Mohit Chose CAT 2024: The Last-Minute Decision

Until August 2024, an MBA was not on Mohit’s radar. However, guided by the urge to learn and grow beyond the CA practice, he impulsively decided to appear for CAT - purchasing a dedicated crash course around mid-August. With only two months to prepare, Mohit’s story resonates with countless aspirants anxious about limited prep time.

He says, “Your first attempt is your golden attempt. With no baggage or preconceived notions, you can focus fully on the syllabus and your strengths."

Mohit’s 2-Month CAT Preparation Strategy

Mohit started his CAT prep in early September with the aim to maximize efficiency. Here’s how his study plan unfolded:

  • Understanding the Syllabus: He began by exploring each section through targeted sectional tests, instead of jumping directly into full-length mocks.
  • Leveraging Online Crash Courses: Mohit found structured digital courses—designed for 60-day or 50-day plans—particularly useful for focused revision and clarity.
  • Mock Tests as Game Changer: The last 25 days were exclusively devoted to daily mock tests and simulated exam environments, crucial for building familiarity and reducing exam-day anxiety.
  • Study Time Optimization: Despite the late start, Mohit’s BCom and CA background gave him a solid base for Quant and DILR. He dedicated extra hours to VARC, his relatively weaker area, scoring 96.35 percentile there—while hitting 99+ in DILR and QA.

Mohit’s Section-Wise Strategy for CAT 2024 (VARC, QA, DILR)

For Mohit, VARC (Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension) was initially the most challenging section. Coming from a small town, he hadn’t been exposed much to English reading material. However, regular practice through Cracku’s CAT sectional tests and RC sets helped him improve his comprehension skills. “VARC was a bit harder to grasp for me, but I kept practicing daily,” he said. His consistent efforts paid off with an impressive 96.35 percentile in VARC.

Note: He focused a lot on reading articles daily. If you also want to build a habit of reading articles daily then we have an amazing page called CAT daily articles. We upload 3 articles daily here from the previous years sources of CAT RCs.

When it came to Quantitative Aptitude (QA), Mohit’s approach was clear, focus on fundamentals. With limited exposure to higher-level mathematics, he relied heavily on Cracku’s video lectures and formula-based problem-solving. “The questions were similar in difficulty to what I practiced in Cracku mocks. I didn’t find Quant unusually tough,” he said. His steady preparation helped him achieve a 99.1 percentile in Quant.

In Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning (DILR), Mohit found his strongest suit. By solving daily practice sets and revising logic patterns, he developed high accuracy and speed. “Three or four sets clicked for me on the exam day — all thanks to consistent DILR practice,” he explained. This turned out to be his highest-scoring area with an outstanding 99.5 percentile.

Mindset That Helped Mohit Succeed in CAT 2024

Mohit’s journey underlines that even with limited time, a focused approach can yield extraordinary results. He stresses the danger of procrastination: “Don’t run away from your weaknesses. Identify them swiftly and tackle them head-on through mocks and targeted practice.”

Despite nerves about the countdown and balancing his job and studies, Mohit’s disciplined daily schedule, especially in the last six weeks, proved vital. He even adjusted his sleep schedule to match the early CAT slot.

Mohit’s Top Advice for CAT Aspirants

  • Don’t Settle: Focus exclusively on clearing CAT first—don’t stress about colleges until you’re through the exam.
  • Embrace Mistakes: “Don’t be afraid to face your mistakes. Every mock reveals what needs to improve.”
  • Stay Consistent, Not Perfect: Take sectional tests initially, but transition quickly to full mocks. Don’t get bogged down if scores vary—use each attempt as a learning tool.
  • Leverage Your Strengths: Use your unique academic or professional background to your advantage. For non-engineers or late starters, a concise, high-yield plan works best.
