The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) is one of India's premier institutions for social sciences, human development, and public policy. TISS was established in 1936 as the Sir Dorabji Tata Graduate School of Social Work. It was later renamed as the Tata Institute of Social Sciences in the year 1944. The institute was declared Deemed to be a University in the year 1964 under section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act (UGC), 1956.
Vision of the TISS has been to be an institution of excellence in higher education that continually responds to changing social realities through the development and application of knowledge.

Exams Accepted at TISS
The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) has started accepting CAT for admissions to its flagship management programs from 2024 onwards. Since the TISSNET has been discontinued, which means a single and streamlined entrance exam for aspirants seeking admission in TISS.
After TISSNET, it started accepting CUET PG for the admission in its management programs for the year 2023 but for year 2024 it will accept CAT only.

Q. Which exam is accepted by TISS for admission to its PG courses?
A. The TISSNET exam is now discontinued from 2024. Admissions for TISS post graduate programmes will be conducted through CAT and CUET-PG scores.
Q. What is the fee concession for TISS?
A. TISS provides various financial aid and support to its students. The upfront provisional aid is for students whose parents’/Self annual income is less than ₹1 lakh (one lakh) during the previous Financial Year are eligible to get Upfront Provisional Students Aid of Rs.12000/- towards tuition fee at the time of admission, subject to availability of fund.
Q. What is the hostel fee for at TISS?
A. The hostel fee is INR 15,000 per semester. Moreover, each room is shared by two students.
Q. Is TISS Government or Private?
A. The institute is recognised as a Deemed University by the Government of India (GOI), and is primarily funded by the UGC.
Q. Is TISS only for Human Resource (HR)?
A. No, TISS not just for Human Resource industry. Many companies from different sectors come to the campus for placements. For instance, BSFI sector companies like CitiBank also recruit TISS students. Hence, you can opt for companies apart from the HR ones as well.
