CAT vs XAT Exam Pattern Difference
The CAT exam is a computer-based test that consists of three sections: Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension (VARC), Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning (DILR), and Quantitative Aptitude (QA). The total time duration of the CAT exam is 120 minutes.
The XAT exam is also a computer-based test comprising five sections: Verbal and Logical Ability, Decision Making, Quantitative Aptitude and Data Interpretation, General Knowledge, and Essay Writing. The total time duration of the XAT exam is 180 minutes.

What is Included in the XAT Syllabus But Not in CAT?
The Key differences in CAT and XAT syllabus comes in play in decision making and GK sections, which are not present in the CAT exam.
1. Decision Making
- This is a unique section in XAT that assesses your ability to analyze situations, identify problems, and make sound judgments.
- It often involves caselets or scenarios presenting ethical dilemmas, business challenges, or complex situations requiring you to choose the best course of action.
- This section tests your critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and ethical reasoning, which are crucial for managerial roles.
2. General Knowledge in XAT syllabus
- XAT includes a General Knowledge section that covers current affairs, business, economics, history, geography, and static GK.

The CAT is a relatively shorter exam in terms of sections and therefore requires speed and accuracy during the course of those sections. Further, it involves longer reading comprehension passages and puzzles that analytically challenge in DILR and eventually force the candidate to quickly digest a lot of things.
