CAT DILR Topic-Wise Weightage Based on Previous Years
There is no set weightage to CAT DI-LR topic-wise. The number of questions may differ every year. Also, the type of questions can vary. However, past years' papers reveal certain repeating topics like arrangements, games and tournaments, tables, graphs, distribution, and caselet reasoning.
Topic / Set Type | CAT 2022 | CAT 2023 | CAT 2024 |
Tables and graphs | Frequently Asked | Asked | Asked |
Arrangements and puzzles | Asked | Asked | Asked |
Games and tournaments | Asked | Asked | Asked |
Selection and distribution | Asked | Asked | Asked |
Routes and networks | Asked | Asked | Asked |
Venn diagrams and set-based reasoning | Asked | Varied by slot | Asked |
What Does This Weightage Mean for CAT 2027?
- Practice tables and graphs: Build speed in interpreting data and performing calculations.
- Focus on logical reasoning: Practise arrangements, games, tournaments, and distribution problems.
- Solve mixed sets: Learn to handle questions combining data interpretation and logical reasoning.
- Use previous-year papers: Understand how topics are presented and how difficulty varies across slots.
Prepare for CAT 2027 by using the previous yearβs weightage as a guide instead of predicting it. Don't rely only on high-weightage topics; practise all important DILR sets.
Most Important DILR Topics for CAT 2027
For preparing for CAT 2027 DILR, choose subjects that will enable you to hone your skills in data interpretation, logic, and solving problems. The topics mentioned below have been chosen keeping in view the type of questions asked in CAT in past years.
Data Interpretation (DI) | Logical Reasoning (LR) |
Tables and caselets | Seating arrangements |
Bar graphs and line graphs | Games and tournaments |
Pie charts and mixed graphs | Grouping and distribution |
Data comparison and analysis | Scheduling and selection |
Venn diagrams | Routes and networks |
Data sufficiency | Logical puzzles |
It is better to start with tables, graphs, and arrangements and grouping problems. After that, work on complicated sets having more than one condition or calculation. Solve CAT previous year papers in order to know about different types of sets and also learn how to select sets in 40 minutes.

CAT DILR Previous Year Analysis: Most Repeated Set Types
Past CAT question papers reveal that arrangements, games and tournaments, tabulation, graphical representation, distributions, schedules, and caselet-based sets are topics which have appeared in the DILR section. Nevertheless, the nature and difficulty level of questions may differ in each slot. Therefore, one should not depend upon a particular pattern.
DILR Set Type | What to Practise |
Tables and graphs | Interpreting data, comparing values, and calculating ratios |
Arrangements and ordering | Positioning people or objects using given conditions |
Games and tournaments | Tracking results, points, rankings, and match outcomes |
Grouping and distribution | Assigning people or objects while following constraints |
Scheduling | Arranging events or tasks in a logical sequence |
Routes and networks | Understanding connections, paths, and movement |
Caselet-based sets | Extracting information from paragraphs and solving linked questions |
Mixed DI-LR sets | Combining numerical calculations with logical deductions |
For CAT 2027, practice previous yearβs DILR sets in order to grasp the way information is being put forth, and how the different conditions work together. The main emphasis should be on setting up doable sets and finding a suitable approach.

How to Prepare for CAT 2027 DILR From Zero?
If you are beginning your CAT 2027 DILR preparation from scratch, then start from basics of sets and slowly work your way up to the level of CAT questions by concentrating on information, logic, and the selection of correct sets.
- Start with basic sets: Practise tables, charts, arrangements, and grouping problems to understand how DILR questions work.
- Learn to organise information: Use tables, diagrams, or grids to arrange the given data and identify relationships between conditions.
- Solve 1β2 sets daily: Focus on understanding the solution rather than completing sets quickly. Review mistakes and retry difficult sets.
- Practise previous-year questions: Once your basics are clear, solve previous CAT DILR sets to understand the question patterns and difficulty levels.
- Develop set-selection skills: Practise identifying manageable sets before attempting them. Avoid spending too much time on a set that is not progressing.
- Introduce timed practice: Once you can solve sets accurately, practise under time limits and take DILR sectional tests to improve speed and decision-making.
Tip: Regular practice and analysis of errors made would help you improve. For DILR, selecting appropriate sets becomes as essential as solving them correctly.
