While filling the CAT form, an aspirant can apply to all the IIMs. However, aspirants need to apply separately to certain top B-schools that accept the CAT scores. Also, the deadline to apply for certain B-schools ends before the CAT exam. Candidates should be aware of the application deadlines of all these top MBA colleges so that one doesn’t miss out on the deadlines. As you move closer to the exam, take at least one CAT online mock test every weekend and analyze it thoroughly. Also, try to go through the previous year’s papers of CAT to acquaint yourself with the type of questions that appear in the exam. Colleges to apply to before the CAT exam
Faculty of Management Studies (FMS):
Faculty of Management Studies, Delhi, consistently ranks within the top 5 B-schools of the country. Usually, the deadline to apply to FMS is set before the CAT exam. However, in 2020, the application form of FMS opened in December (due to the Covid pandemic). It is expected to release before the CAT this year. Upon application form release, it will be updated here.
FMS is one of the most affordable B-schools in the country to do an MBA from. The course fee for 2 years is around two lakhs. The registration window is not open yet, as of today. Usually, FMS opens the registration window in the month of October. The application fee is usually around Rs. 1000. The weightage for the CAT score in the final selection is around 50%. Therefore, a high CAT score boosts the chances of getting a call from FMS.
Management Development Institute (MDI):
Management Development Institute has been consistently ranked as one of the top B-schools of India. The application form is expected to release in a week. The last date to apply for MDI is usually in the last week of November. The application fee is usually around Rs. 3000.
Located in NCR, MDI has established itself as one of the top colleges in India for marketing. The CAT cut-off for the college hovers around 97 percentile. The weightage for the CAT score in the final selection is close to 60%. Therefore, a high CAT score boosts the chances of getting selected by a good margin.
SP Jain Institute of Management and Research (SPJIMR):
SP Jain Institute of Management and Research (SPJIMR) is a top private college located in Mumbai. Applicants are required to choose their preferred stream of specialization in the interview form itself. Also, the interviews for different specializations happen separately. After shortlisting, the institute conducts two rounds of group interviews based on which the institute selects the candidates.
The institute gives out two sets of calls – profile-based and score-based. The cut-off for profile-based calls is 85 percentile overall. The sectionals scores should be greater than the 75 percentile. Apart from CAT, SP Jain also accepts the GMAT scores. SP Jain offers an excellent opportunity for candidates who have scored between 85 and 98 percentile to study at a great B-school.
The application form of SPJIMR is expected to release soon. The last date to apply to SP Jain is usually in the last week of November. After the CAT results are announced, the application window opens again briefly, for the candidates to enter their CAT scores. The application fee is usually around Rs. 1500.
Institute of Management Technology (IMT) Ghaziabad:
The Institute of Management Technology (IMT) Ghaziabad is a reputed institute for Marketing. IMT, Ghaziabad usually closes its application process before CAT. In the past, IMT has opened the registration window after CAT to allow students who have scored well to apply. However, it is advisable to fill the form prior to CAT to be on the safer side as there is no guarantee that IMS will reopen its registration window after CAT. The application fee is slightly over Rs. 2000.
Apart from these B-schools, there are other good B-Schools whose applications will be usually released after the CAT Exam and before the exam results. Some good colleges in Delhi University (such as DSE, etc) release the forms after the CAT exam. Other Top MBA colleges to fill the forms include IITs, IMI Delhi, etc.
Top B-schools that admit candidates through exams other than CAT are XLRI (through the XAT exam), SIBM (through the SNAP exam), IIFT(through IIFT entrance exam), and NMIMS (through NMAT). The application window for most of these exams is open now.
