IIM Amritsar Admission Process
The admission process for the MBA Program is divided into two stages. In the first stage, candidates are shortlisted for a Personal Interview (PI). In the second stage, candidates are evaluated further, and a decision is made regarding their admission to the MBA Program.
To assess a candidate’s eligibility for the MBA Program, IIM Amritsar considers multiple parameters such as their marks in the 10th and 12th board exams, marks obtained in the graduation program, quality of work experience, gender and academic diversity, and their section-wise scores in the CAT exam. These parameters are combined to form a composite score.
Stage 1: Pre-Personal Interview Process
The initial stage of the admission process involves evaluating all eligible candidates who have appeared for the CAT exam. This is done to identify the candidates who will be invited for the Personal Interview (PI).
The first shortlist is created based on the candidates who have obtained a pre-determined minimum percentile score in each section and an overall score of CAT. Only those candidates who have obtained a positive raw score in all sections of the CAT will be considered. The below table provides the pre-determined minimum percentile cut-off scores applicable for the first shortlist for CAT for the MBA program.
Category | Quantitative Aptitude (Percentile) | Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning (Percentile) | Verbal & Reading Comprehension (Percentile) | Total (Overall Percentile) |
Section-1 | Section-2 | Section-3 | ||
General | 80 | 75 | 75 | 85 |
EWS | 80 | 75 | 75 | 85 |
Non-Creamy Other Backward Classes (NC-OBC) | 65 | 60 | 60 | 75 |
Scheduled Castes (SC) | 55 | 50 | 50 | 55 |
Scheduled Tribes (ST) | 35 | 35 | 35 | 40 |
Persons with Disabilities (PwD) | 35 | 35 | 35 | 40 |
Stage 2: Personal Interview (PI)
During the PI, the panel assesses the academic background, quality of work experience, and personal traits of each candidate. The post-PI score is calculated for each candidate by assigning weights to the following criteria:
Parameters | Weightage |
Personal Interview | 70% |
Work Experience | 10% |
Gender Diversity | 10% |
Academic Diversity | 10% |
The combination of pre-PI scores and post-PI scores, both with their respective weightages, will be utilized in the final phase of candidate selection for the program.
The overall composite score for every candidate is determined using the below-given formula.
Aggregate Score = 0.6 X Pre-PI Score + 0.4 X Post-PI Score
The offers of admission to candidates from each category will be finalized solely based on the rank obtained from the calculated aggregate score.
