Equation 1Â :Â 4x - 7y = 3
Equation 2Â : 2x - y = 9
Multiplying equation (ii) by 2 and subtracting equation (i) from it
=> $$(-2y+7y)=(18-3)$$
=> $$5y=15$$
=> $$y=\frac{15}{5}=3$$
Substituting it in equation (ii), => $$2x = 9+3 = 12$$
=> $$x=\frac{12}{2}=6$$
$$\therefore (x-y)=6-3=3$$
