If a boat goes upstream at a speed of 24 km/hr and comes back the same distance at 40 km/hr. What is the average speed (in km/hr) for the total journey.

Solution

Average speed= $$\frac{2\times\ Dis\tan ce}{\frac{Dis\tan ce}{24}+\frac{Dis\tan ce}{40}}=\frac{2\times Dis\tan ce\times120}{\left(5+3\right)Dis\tan ce}=30\ \frac{km}{h}\ .$$

B is correct choice.
