The H.C.F and L.C.M of two numbers are 21 and 84 respectively. If the ratio of the two numbers is 1: 4, then the larger of the two numbers is

Solution

Let the numbers be x,4x.
given,
HCF=21
LCM=84

We know that , LCM × HCF=1st number × 2nd number

84×21 = x×4x
1764 = 4x^2
1764/4 = x^2
441 = x^2
x=21

therefore one number is 21 and other is 84(21×4).
