Question 82

If 7 + 4x > 3 + 3x and 3x - 2 < 5 - x; then x can take which of the following values?

Solution

Expression 1 : 7 + 4x > 3 + 3x

=> $$4x - 3x$$ > $$3 - 7$$

=> $$x$$ > $$-4$$ --------------(i)

Expression 2 : 3x - 2 < 5 - x

=> $$3x + x$$ < $$5 + 2$$

=> $$4x$$ < $$7$$

=> $$x$$ < $$\frac{7}{4}$$ -----------------(ii)

Combining inequalities (i) and (ii), we get : $$-4$$ < $$x$$ < $$\frac{7}{4}$$

Thus, $$x$$ can take values = -3 , -2 , -1 , 0 , 1

=> Ans - (C)
