Question 81

Among three numbers, the first is twice the second and thrice the third. If the average of three numbers is 506, then what is the difference between the first and the third number?

Solution

Let the first number = $$6x$$

=> Second number = $$3x$$ and third number = $$2x$$

Average of the three numbers = $$\frac{6x + 3x + 2x}{3} = 506$$

=> $$11x = 506 \times 3 = 1518$$

=> $$x = \frac{1518}{11} = 138$$

$$\therefore$$ Difference between first and third number = $$6x - 2x = 4x$$

= $$4 \times 138 = 552$$

=> Ans - (D)
