The mean of five numbers is 45.

Sum of five numbers = $$45\times5$$

= 225

If a sixth number is also included, the mean becomes 48.

Let's assume the sixth number is 'y'.

$$\frac{225+y}{6}\ =\ 48$$

225+y = 288

y = 288-225

= 63

So the sixth number = y = 63
