Question 7

In an election between two candidates, the winning candidate got 70% of the valid votes and won by a majority of 9000 votes. If out of total votes polled 90% votes are valid, then what is the total number of votes polled?

Solution

Let total number of votes polled = $$100x$$

=> Number of valid votes = $$\frac{90}{100}\times100x=90x$$

% of valid votes received by winning candidate = 70%, => By losing candidate = 30%

Difference between votes = $$\frac{40}{100}\times90x=9000$$

=> $$36x=9000$$

=> $$x=\frac{9000}{36}=250$$

$$\therefore$$ Total number of votes polled = $$100\times250=25000$$

=> Ans - (B)
