P : Q = 4 : 5 and R is 15% less than Q. If Q = 300, then what is the sum of P and R?
Solution
R is 15% less than Q and Q = 300.
R = 300Â of (100-15)%
RÂ = 300Â of 85%
$$R=300\times\frac{85}{100}$$R = 255
P : Q = 4 : 5
$$\frac{P}{Q}\ =\ \frac{4}{5}$$
Put the value of 'Q' in the above equation.
$$\frac{P}{300}\ =\ \frac{4}{5}$$
$$\frac{P}{60}\ =\ \frac{4}{1}$$
P = 240
Sum of P and R = 240+255
= 495
