Question 60

If the difference between discount of 35% and two successive discounts of 20% on a certain bill is Rs 3, then what is the amount (in Rs) of the bill?

Solution

Let amount of the bill = Rs. $$100x$$

I : Amount after discount of 35% = $$100x-(\frac{35}{100}\times100x)$$

= $$100x-35x=65x$$

II : Amount after first discount of 20% = $$100x-(\frac{20}{100}\times100x)$$

= $$100x-20x=80x$$

Amount after second discount of 20% = $$80x-(\frac{20}{100}\times80x)$$

= $$80x-16x=64x$$

According to ques, => $$65x-64x=3$$

=> $$x=3$$

$$\therefore$$ Amount of the bill = $$100\times3=Rs.$$ $$300$$

=> Ans - (B)
