Speed of a boat in still water is 8 km/h. If the speed of stream is 2 km/h, then how much distance can the boat travel in two hours going up stream?

Solution

Given,

Speed of a boat in still water is 8 km/h and the speed of stream is 2 km/h.

Upstream speed = speed in still water - speed of stream

therefore upstream speed = 8 - 2 = 6.

Distance the boat travels in two hours going up stream = $$6\times2$$ = 12km
