If $$x + y + z = 400$$ and $$x : y : z = 1 : 1 : 2$$, then what is the value of $$z$$?

Solution

Given,

$$x + y + z = 400$$ and $$x : y : z = 1 : 1 : 2$$

let $$x = 1p; y = 1p; z = 2p$$

Substituting these values in $$x + y + z = 400$$

$$1p + 1p + 2p = 400$$

$$4p = 400$$

$$p = 100$$

Therefore $$z = 2p = 2\times{100} = 200$$.
