Question 51

A trader had 6 quintals of wheat. He sold a part of it at 7% profit and the rest at 17% profit, so that he made a total profit of 11%. How much wheat did he sell at 17% profit?

Solution

1 quintal = 100 kg => 6 quintals = 600 kg

Let the part he sold at 17% profit = $$x$$ kg

=> Part he sold at 7% profit = $$(600 - x)$$ kg

Total profit made by the trader = 11%

=> $$17x + 7 (600 - x) = 11 \times 600$$

=> $$17x + (7 \times 600) - 7x = 11 \times 600$$

=> $$10x = 600 \times (11 - 7)$$

=> $$x = 60 \times 4 = 240$$ kg

=> Ans - (B)
