Question 49

Read the given statements and conclusions carefully. Assuming that the information given in the statements is true, even if it appears to be at variance with commonly known facts, decide which of the given conclusions logically follow(s) from the statements.

Statements:
All basketball players are tall people.
Suman is tall.

Conclusions:
I. Suman is a basketball player.
II. Some tall people are basketball players.

Conclusion: I. Suman is a basketball player.

In the statement, it is given that 'All basketball players are tall.'. But it is not necessary that 'All tall people are basketball players.'. So as per the statement, 'Suman is tall.'. But it cannot be said that she is a basketball player. So this conclusion does not follow.

Conclusion:II. Some tall people are basketball players.

The given conclusion follows as per the first statement. Because we know that when the relation of 'all' is given then 'some' will definitely be true.

Hence only conclusion II follows.
