Question 43

Three statements are given followed by three conclusions numbered I, II and III. Assuming that the information given in the statements is true, even if it appears to be different from commonly known facts, decide which of the conclusions logically follow(s) from the statements.

Statements:
1. Some cheeses are butters.
2. All oils are butters.
3. No butters are liquid.

Conclusions:
I. No oils are liquids.
II. Some butters are cheeses.
III. All butters are oils.

Solution

Conclusion: I. No oils are liquids.

As per the above-given diagram, this conclusion follows. Because 'All oils are butters.' and 'No butters is  liquid.' is given.

Conclusion: II. Some butters are cheeses.

As per the above-given diagram, this conclusion follows.

Conclusion: III. All butters are oils.

Here 'Some butters are oils.' is definitely true. But the relation of 'all' cannot be said. So the given conclusion does not follow.
