A certain number of men can do a work in 40 days. If there we 8 men more, it could be finished in 10 days less. How many men were there initially ?

Solution

Let there be $$x$$ men initially, using $$M_1D_1=M_2D_2$$, where $$M$$ is the number of men and $$D$$ is the number of days.

=> $$x\times40=(x+8)\times30$$

=> $$4x=3x+24$$

=> $$4x-3x=24$$

$$\therefore$$ There were 24 men initially.
