A mason can build a wall in 18 hours. After 9 hours he takes a break. What fraction of the wall is yet to be built?

Solution

Let total work to be done = 18 units

Mason's efficiency = $$\frac{18}{18} = 1$$ unit/hr

Work done by the mason in 9 hours = $$9 \times 1 = 9$$ units

=> Work left = 18 - 9 = 9 units

$$\therefore$$ Fraction of work that is left = $$\frac{9}{18} = \frac{1}{2}$$

= 0.5
