Question 41

For triangle ABC, find equation of median AD if co-ordinates of A, B and C are (-1,-3), (5,-4) and (3,2) respectively?

Solution

Coordinates of the triangle A (-1,-3) , B (5,-4) and C (3,2)

D is the mid point of BC, => Coordinates of point D = $$(\frac{(5 + 3)}{2} , \frac{(-4 + 2)}{2})$$

=> D = (4 , -1)

Now, equation of line AD = $$(y + 3) = \frac{(-1 + 3)}{(4 + 1)} (x + 1)$$

=> $$(y + 3) = \frac{2}{5} (x + 1)$$

=> $$5y + 15 = 2x + 2$$

=> $$2x - 5y = 13$$
