Question 4

Two whole numbers are such that the square of first number exceeds the second by 112 and the ratio of the numbers is 4:3. What is the value of smaller number?

Solution

Let the numbers be $$4x$$ and $$3x$$

According to ques,

=> $$(4x)^2-(3x)^2=112$$

=> $$16x^2-9x^2=7x^2=112$$

=> $$x^2=\frac{112}{7}=16$$

=> $$x=\sqrt{16}=4$$

$$\therefore$$ Smaller number = $$3\times4=12$$

=> Ans - (C)
