Question 39

The following equation is incorrect. Which two signs should be interchanged to correct the equation?
18 x 12 - 6 ÷ 5 + 4 = 35

Solution

Expression : 18 x 12 - 6 ÷ 5 + 4 = 35

(A) : ÷ and +

$$\equiv18\times12-6+5\div4=35$$

L.H.S. = $$216-6+1.25=211.25\neq$$ R.H.S.

(B) : - and ÷

$$\equiv18\times12\div6-5+4=35$$

L.H.S. = $$(18\times\frac{12}{6})-1$$

= $$36-1=35=$$ R.H.S.

=> Ans - (B)
