When a discount of 25% is given on a box of popcorn, the profit is 25%. If the discount is 10%, then the profit is
Let marked price = Rs. $$100x$$
After 25% discount, selling price = $$\frac{75}{100} \times 100x$$ = Rs. $$75x$$
Let Cost price = Rs. $$y$$
=> Profit % = $$\frac{75x - y}{y} \times 100 = 25$$
=> $$\frac{75x - y}{y} = \frac{25}{100} = \frac{1}{4}$$
=> $$300x - 4y = y$$
=> $$y = \frac{300x}{5} = Rs. 60x$$
If, discount = 10%, => Selling price = $$\frac{90}{100} \times 100x = Rs. 90x$$
$$\therefore$$ Profit % = $$\frac{90x - 60x}{60x} \times 100$$
= $$\frac{1}{2} \times 100 = 50 \%$$
