Question 36

Read the given statements and conclusions carefully. Assuming that the information given in the statements is true, even if it appears to be at variance with commonly known facts, decide which of the given conclusions logically follow(s) from the statements.
Statements:
I. No car is a bench.
II. All tables are cars.
Conclusions:
I. Some cars are tables.
II. Some cars are benches.
III. No bench is a table.

Solution

Conclusion: I. Some cars are tables.

The relationship of some between 'cars' and 'tables' is clearly visible in the above given venn diagram. So the given conclusion follows.

Conclusion: II. Some cars are benches.

There is a completely negative relation between 'cars' and 'benches'. So the given conclusions does not follow.

Conclusion: III. No bench is a table.

The given conclusion follows as per the above Venn diagram. Because 'no car is bench.' and 'all table is car.' is given.

Hence only conclusions I and III follow.
