In a farm, in addition to 48 hens there are 42 sheep and 11 oxen with some shepherds. If the total number of feet be 224 more than the number of heads, find the number of shepherd.
Solution
Let there are $$x$$ shepherds.
=> Number of heads = $$48+42+11+x=(x+101)$$
Number of legs = $$(48\times2)+(42\times4)+(11\times4)+(x\times2)$$
= $$96+168+44+2x=(2x+308)$$
According to ques,
=> $$(2x+308)-(x+101)=224$$
=> $$x+207=224$$
=> $$x=224-207=17$$
=> Ans - (D)
