In each of the following questions, a series is given,with one term missing. Choose the correct alternative from the given ones that will complete the series.

Question 165

2, 3, 5, 9, 17, ? .

Solution

Let the missing term be y

here the given sequence is 2, 3, 5, 9, 17

here we can see that

3 = 2 x 2 - 1

5 = 3 x 2 -1

9 = 5 x 2 - 1

17 = 9 x 2 -1

As the every next term is twice of previous term and minus 1 from it .

So, y = 17 x 2 - 1 = 33
