Question 14

What is the square root of $$\frac{(3-2\sqrt2)}{(3+2\sqrt2)}?$$

Solution

Expression : $$\frac{(3-2\sqrt2)}{(3+2\sqrt2)}$$

Rationalizing the denominator,

= $$\frac{(3-2\sqrt2)}{(3+2\sqrt2)}\times\frac{(3-2\sqrt2)}{(3-2\sqrt2)}$$

= $$\frac{(3-2\sqrt2)^2}{(3+2\sqrt2)(3-2\sqrt2)}$$

= $$\frac{(3-2\sqrt2)^2}{9-8}=(3-2\sqrt2)^2$$

Thus, square root is = $$3-2\sqrt2$$
