Question 13

An item is sold at two successive discounts of 20% and 20%. The selling price of article after the two discounts is Rs 1280. If it is sold only at one discount of 30%, then what will be the selling price (in Rs) of the article?

Solution

Let marked price = Rs. $$100x$$

Price after 1st discount of 20% = $$100x-(\frac{20}{100}\times100x)=Rs.$$ $$80x$$

SellingĀ Price after 2nd discount of 20% = $$80x-(\frac{20}{100}\times80x)=Rs.$$ $$64x$$

According to ques, => $$64x=1280$$

=> $$x=\frac{1280}{64}=20$$

$$\therefore$$ Marked price = $$100\times20=Rs.$$ $$2000$$

IfĀ it is sold only at one discount of 30%, thenĀ selling price = $$2000-(\frac{30}{100}\times2000)$$

= $$2000-600=Rs.$$ $$1400$$

=> Ans - (B)
