A number is first decreased by 10% and then increased by 10%. The number so obtained is 100 less than the original number. The original number is:

Solution

Let the number be 100x.
New number after decrease and increase of 10% = $$100x \times \dfrac{90}{100}\times\dfrac{110}{100} = 99x$$
Given, 100x-99x = 100
x = 100
Then, The original number = 100x = 100*100 = 10000.
