let the numbers of 5 candidates be a-3,a-1,a+1,a+3,a+5

It is given that

a-3+a-1+a+1+a+3+a+5 =185

5a + 5 = 185

5a = 180

a= 36

The highest score = a + 5 = 36 + 5 = 41
