The average of 12 numbers is 15 and the average of the first two is 14. What is the average of the rest ?
Solution
Average of 12 numbers = 15
=> Sum of 12 numbers = $$15\times12=180$$
Similarly, sum of first two = $$14\times2=28$$
Thus, sum of rest of the numbers = $$180-28=152$$
=> Average of 10 numbers = $$\frac{152}{10}=\frac{76}{5}=15\frac{1}{5}$$
