Chemistry can be a high-scoring section because, in JEE Main, several times direct concepts, standard reactions, and familiar numerical models have been asked. However, this does not mean that every Chemistry JEE Mains mock test will be easy.
A few questions from metallurgy, coordination compounds, p-block chemistry or organic reactions can test whether you remember a small detail correctly. Similarly, mole concept, solutions or electrochemistry questions can require calculations under time pressure. Regular practice and timed JEE Main chemistry mock tests and PYQs can help you identify which questions you can solve immediately and which ones need more time.
JEE Mains Chemistry Mock Test Pattern and Marking Scheme
Chemistry carries 100 marks in JEE Main, with 25 questions. Among the 25 questions, 20 are MCQs, and 5 are numerical-value questions. You can use the above JEE Mains previous years' papers to understand the exam pattern well.
Exam component | Chemistry details |
Total Chemistry questions | 25 |
MCQs | 20 |
Numerical-value questions | 5 |
Questions to attempt | 25 |
Maximum Chemistry marks | 100 |
Correct answer | +4 marks |
Incorrect answer | −1 mark |
Unattempted question | 0 marks |
Suggested sectional mock time | 60 minutes |
Chemistry is comparatively more straightforward in JEE Main than in JEE Advanced. Advanced-level questions can combine three or four concepts and test how well you connect them. Main questions can still be tricky, but a large part of the section rewards strong recall, NCERT solutions, standard models and repeated practice.
For example, a metallurgy question may ask about an extraction method, reducing agent or property of an ore. A p-block question may test an exception that you had read but forgotten. In physical chemistry, the same concept may appear through a different numerical model.
Therefore, do not solve mocks only to increase your score. Check why you got a question wrong and classify the mistake as a concept error, calculation error, memory error or question-selection error.
JEE Mains Chemistry Marks vs Percentile 2027
Your JEE Mains Chemistry target score should depend on the percentile and total JEE Main score you want. Subject-wise percentile is not the same as the overall JEE Main percentile, so use the table below only to evaluate Chemistry performance. To improve your sectional score, take the JEE chapter-wise tests and know your strengths.
Chemistry marks out of 100 | Expected Chemistry percentile range | What the score indicates |
90-100 | 99.5+ | Excellent accuracy and strong recall |
80-89 | 98-99.5 | Very strong Chemistry performance |
70-79 | 95-99 | Strong score with limited mistakes |
60-69 | 90-97 | Good base with scope for improvement |
50-59 | 82-94 | Decent progress but accuracy needs work |
40-49 | 70-88 | More revision and question practice required |
Below 40 | Below 80 | Strengthen concepts and basic question models |
Set a score target rather than simply trying to “do better”.
For example:
Target Chemistry score = 80 marks
Current Chemistry score = 40 marks
Gap = 40 marks
Instead of trying to gain all 40 marks in one mock, divide the improvement:
- +10 marks from reducing silly mistakes
- +12 marks from improving Physical Chemistry numericals
- +8 marks from revising Inorganic and Organic Chemistry
- +10 marks from consistent practice.
If you are scoring 30 with only 70% of the JEE syllabus completed, do not panic. Protect that 30 first, complete the remaining chapters and then push towards 50 and 60. If the complete syllabus gives you only 30, the issue is more likely practice, recall or question selection.
JEE Mains Chemistry Chapter-wise Weightage
The following JEE Mains chemistry chapter-wise weightage is based on recent JEE Main question trends and should be noted as an indicative distribution rather than a fixed paper blueprint.
Chemistry unit/chapter | Approx. questions per paper | Approx. weightage |
Coordination Compounds | 1-2 | 6-8% |
Some Basic Principles of Organic Chemistry | 1-2 | 5-7% |
Chemical Thermodynamics | 1-2 | 5-7% |
Equilibrium | 1-2 | 5-7% |
Organic Compounds Containing Oxygen | 1-2 | 5-7% |
Hydrocarbons | 1-2 | 4-6% |
Solutions | 1 | 4-5% |
Chemical Kinetics | 1 | 4-5% |
Electrochemistry | 1 | 4-5% |
Chemical Bonding | 1-2 | 4-6% |
p-Block Elements | 1-2 | 4-6% |
d- and f-Block Elements | 1 | 3-5% |
Haloalkanes and Haloarenes | 1 | 3-5% |
Amines | 1 | 3-5% |
Biomolecules | 1 | 2-4% |
Metallurgy / Principles of Extraction | 0-1 | 2-4% |
Atomic Structure | 0-1 | 2-4% |
Mole Concept and Stoichiometry | 1 | 3-5% |
- Do not interpret low-weightage chapters as chapters that can always be skipped. A direct question from a smaller chapter can be one of the easiest four marks available in the paper.
- For preparation, divide chapters into three groups: strong, developing and weak.
- Revise strong chapters regularly using JEE Mains chemistry cheat sheets.
- Concentrate on weaker chapters in the upcoming two months as the JEE Mains January 2027 session is near.
- For the last 1 month, revise all the concepts in chemistry you have practised so far and prioritise the JEE Mains chemistry important chapters.
Why Choose Cracku’s JEE Mains Chemistry Mock Tests?
Chemistry improves when you repeatedly expose yourself to different question models. JEE Mains chemistry mock tests can help you build that familiarity without waiting until the final weeks.
NCERT-style questions with twists
A Chemistry question may resemble an NCERT textbook example but change one condition, compound or numerical value. Therefore, memorising the exact question is not enough. Solve multiple variations of the same model.
For example, after practising one mole-concept question, solve questions involving limiting reagent, percentage purity and gas-volume relationships. The aim is to recognise the underlying model rather than remember the answer.
Organic reaction recall
Organic Chemistry can feel difficult when reactions start mixing. Make reaction maps and revise them repeatedly. After studying a reaction, solve 5-10 questions immediately. Revisit the same reactions after a few days. Make JEE Main chemistry notes for the topics you study that help you revise more efficiently before a mock test.
Physical Chemistry calculations
For Physical Chemistry, maintain a small list of formulas and standard question models. Practise calculations without looking at the formula sheet. Once you identify a repeated model, increase the difficulty gradually.
You can combine Free JEE Mains chemistry mock tests with your regular JEE study material to cover both practice and revision.
JEE Main Chemistry Topic-Wise Mock Tests

How to Attempt JEE Mains Chemistry Mock Tests on Cracku?
Follow a fixed process so that every test gives you useful preparation data.
Step 1: Select the Chemistry test
Open the Chemistry mock-test section and select the paper or sectional test you want to attempt.
Step 2: Keep 60 minutes aside
Treat the sectional test like an actual exam. Keep your phone away and avoid referring to notes while solving.
Step 3: Use question selection
Do not spend three minutes fighting with one difficult Organic or Physical Chemistry question. Mark it, move ahead and return if time remains.
Step 4: Attempt direct questions first
Questions based on known reactions, NCERT facts, standard inorganic properties and familiar formulas can provide quick marks. Build your score before spending time on uncertain questions.
Step 5: Submit and review
Check your score, attempted questions, incorrect answers and solutions. Free JEE Mains mock test are useful only when you use the analysis after the attempt.
How to Analyse Your JEE Mains Chemistry Mock Test Performance?
Once you are done with a JEE Mains chemistry mock test, it's time to analyse your performance. Cracku provides a detailed analysis report of your JEE Mock test. Use that data to understand where you need to improve and what helped you get those results.
Suppose you scored 62/100. Break the 62 marks down in a detailed way, like correct, negative score, unattempted, your mistakes, etc.
Your next target could therefore be 70 marks, not 90.
- Recover the two easy Inorganic questions first. Reduce Organic recall errors next. Then improve Physical Chemistry speed. This creates a practical improvement plan.
- Maintain an error notebook containing reactions, formulas, exceptions, confusing NCERT facts and question models. Revise it before every mock.
- For Organic Chemistry, repeated revision matters because reactions disappear from memory when they are not revisited.
- For Inorganic Chemistry, revise NCERT-based facts and exceptions regularly.
- For Physical Chemistry, solve different numerical models instead of repeating the same question.
- That approach can turn your Chemistry preparation into a scoring section.
