JEE Mains 2027 Session 1 Eligibility Criteria: Check Now

JEE Mains 2027 Session 1 Eligibility Criteria

JEE Main 2027 Session 1 registration has opened, and candidates should check their eligibility before submitting the application. The National Testing Agency (NTA) has opened the Session 1 application window from October 24 to November 22, 2026, up to 11:50 PM. Candidates preparing for JEE must submit the form soon and concentrate on their preparation paired with JEE Mains mock tests. Also, you should understand that eligibility to appear for JEE Main is different from eligibility for admission to NITs, IIITs and other participating institutes.

Is There an Age Limit for JEE Mains 2027?

No, JEE Main 2027 does not mention an upper age limit for appearing in the examination. JEE 2027 aspirants can appear if they satisfy the qualifying examination and other eligibility conditions.

NTA conducts JEE Main for admission to B.E./B.Tech, B.Arch and B.Planning programmes. The eligibility rules for appearing in the examination should not be confused with the separate admission requirements prescribed by NITs, IIITs and other participating institutes.

The following table summarises the important JEE Main 2027 Session 1 eligibility conditions.

For NITs, IIITs and other participating CFTIs, the general admission requirement is at least 75% marks in Class 12 or being within the top 20 percentile of the respective board. For SC/ST candidates, the qualifying marks requirement is 65%.

What Happens If a Candidate Improves Class 12 Marks?

An improvement examination does not change the original year in which the candidate first passed Class 12.

For example, suppose a candidate passed Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Biology in 2025 and subsequently passed Mathematics through an improvement examination in 2026. The first passing year remains 2025 for determining JEE Main eligibility.

Similarly, improving the percentage after passing Class 12 does not create a fresh eligibility year.

JEE aspirants appearing for their Class 12 Board examination in 2027 can enter their Roll Number, Registration Number or Enrollment Number, as applicable, while filling out the JEE Main 2027 application form.

How Many Attempts Are Allowed in JEE Mains 2027?

JEE Main 2027 is being conducted in two sessions, giving eligible candidates two opportunities within the examination year.

JEE Main

6 attempts (twice a year)

Across 3 consecutive years starting from the year of passing Class 12.

JEE Advanced

Across 2 consecutive years starting from the year of passing Class 12.

If a candidate appears in both Session 1 and Session 2, the best NTA Score from the two sessions will be considered for preparation of the merit list/ranking.

The two-session structure gives candidates a practical opportunity to improve their performance. Session 1 can also provide direct exam experience, helping candidates identify issues with time management, question selection and accuracy before Session 2. Candidates can use JEE Mains Previous Papers before Session 1 to understand the exam pattern.
