IIT Kharagpur MBA Selection Criteria 2026

The IIT Kharagpur MBA Selection Criteria 2026 for admission to the MBA 2026–28 batch is set by the Vinod Gupta School of Management (VGSoM). The IIT Kharagpur MBA Selection Criteria 2026 is set to give students a transparent process to get admission. IIT Kharagpur selection criteria follow a two-stage selection process.

The first stage is set for candidates to get shortlisted for the written aptitude test and personal interview based on CAT 2025 performance, academic background, work experience, and other profile-related factors. IIT Kharagpur MBA Admission Criteria 2026

Admission to the MBA 2026–28 programme at the Vinod Gupta School of Management (VGSoM), IIT Kharagpur, held a thorough 2-stage selection process. However, it also evaluates academic background , CAT performance, work experience and the overall performance in the Written Aptitude Test and Personal Interview (WAT-PI).

IIT Kharagpur MBA Selection Process 2026

The MBA selection process at Vinod Gupta School of Management (VGSoM), IIT Kharagpur, for the 2026–28 batch is conducted in two stages.

Stage I – Shortlisting for WAT-PI:
Candidates are shortlisted for the Written Aptitude Test and Personal Interview (WAT-PI) based on their CAT 2025 score, Application Rating (AR) (academic record, work experience, professional qualifications), and Gender Diversity Factor (GDF). Meeting the minimum CAT 2025 percentile is mandatory.

Application Rating (AR)

The Application Rating helps in knowing a candidate’s academic consistency, professional qualifications, and work experience. It includes scores from:

  • Class 10 and Class 12 marks
  • Undergraduate and postgraduate degree performance
  • Professional qualifications (CA, CS, CMA, CFA, FRM)
  • Relevant post-graduation work experience

Work experience is counted only after graduation and up to 5 February 2026. Internships and training are not considered.

If marks are reported as CGPA, they are converted to a percentage using the institute’s prescribed formula.

Stage II: Final Selection

Candidates shortlisted in Stage I must appear for the offline WAT-PI. Final selection is based on a composite score out of 100, calculated using the following weightage:

Stage II – Final Selection:
Final selection is based on a composite score comprising Application Rating (AR), CAT 2025 sectional scores, and WAT-PI performance. Additional marks are awarded to female candidates under the Gender Diversity Factor. Final offers are made based on category-wise merit.

To be eligible for admission consideration, a candidate must meet the following IIT Kharagpur MBA Selection Criteria 2026:

  • Must have appeared in the CAT 2025 conducted by the IIMs.

Academic Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognised University/Institute.

  • If a candidate has a CGPA, it will be converted to a percentage using the institute’s specified formula.

Application Rating Components

Eligibility also depends on scoring in the Application Rating (AR), which includes:

  • 10th Standard marks
  • 12th Standard marks
  • Undergraduate (and where applicable, postgraduate) marks
  • Professional qualifications (e.g., CA, CS, CMA, CFA, FRM)
  • Work experience (post-graduation)

Note: Internships or curricular training do not count toward work experience.
