How IIT Kanpur MBA Cut Off Is Decided?

There are many factors that influence the CAT cutoff set by IIT Kanpur every year. Some of these factors are mentioned below:

  • The difficulty level of the CAT examination directly impacts the cut-off that IIT Kanpur will set for the coming MBA academic year. If the difficulty level of CAT exam is higher, then the cut-off set by the college will be relaxed, and if the difficulty level of the CAT exam is comparatively medium to low, then the college will set the cut-off at a higher rate.
  • The number of seats available for the IIT Kanpur MBA program also affects the cut-off criteria, as if the seat intake for a particular academic year is limited, then the college will set a higher cut-off to shortlist only the most competitive candidates. And if the seat intake for the MBA program is set high, then the cut-off will be set lower to invite candidates to meet admissions vacancies.
  • The total number of candidate who apply for IIT Kanpur MBA program also determine the cut-off criteria set by the college as, if there are a lot of candidates who apply for the program then naturally the competition intensifies and the college will have to set a higher cut-off criteria in comparison to if the college receives less number of applications, then the cut-off will be relaxed as the competition pressure reduces.
  • Reservation policies also play an important role as the institution has to follow category-wise seat reservation for SC, ST, OBC, EWS and other categories as per the guidelines given by the government. A change in government policy will result in fluctuation in the cut-off criteria every year.

IIT Kanpur MBA Cut Off 2026: Conclusion

The minimum CAT cut-off criteria set by the college will be the deciding factor for shortlisting applicants for this year's GDPI process at IIT Kanpur. While General, OBC and EWS candidates should have achieved more than the 80th percentile in the CAT exam, candidates belonging to the SC, ST, and EWS categories will need to have 55th percentile to be eligible for the shortlisting at the IIT Kanpur GDPI process.
