IIM Shillong Selection Criteria 2026
Admission to the PGP 2026-28 batch at Indian Institute of Management Shillong follows a two-stage selection process. In the first stage, candidates are shortlisted for the Personal Interview (PI) based on their CAT 2025 performance and academic profile. In the second stage, the institute prepares the final merit list by considering multiple factors such as CAT score, PI performance, academic achievements, and work experience. IIM Shillong Selection Criteria 2026-28
The selection process has two phases.
Phase 1 - Pre-PI Composite Score (CAT 65% + Academic Score 35%)
Phase 2 - Final Merit List (CAT 40% + PI 40% + Academic Score 10% + Gender Diversity 10%)
The Academic Score used in Phase 1 is called the Normalized Application Rating Score. It is calculated using your Class X marks, Class XII marks, Graduation percentage, and Work experience - all combined into a single score and then normalized against the top 50 applicants in the pool.
Here is how each academic qualification is scored:
Class X, Class XII and Graduation Percentage Scoring:
Percentage | Class X Score | Class XII Score | Graduation Score |
95 - 100 | 10 | 10 | 10 |
90 - 94.99 | 9 | 9 | 9 |
85 - 89.99 | 8 | 8 | 8 |
80 - 84.99 | 5 | 5 | 6 |
75 - 79.99 | 2 | 2 | 4 |
70 - 74.99 | 0 | 0 | 2 |
Below 70 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Work Experience Scoring:
Work Experience | Score |
Less than 7 months | 0 |
7 - 12 months | 6 |
12 - 18 months | 12 |
18 - 24 months | 14 |
24 - 30 months | 10 |
30 - 36 months | 6 |
36 - 42 months | 2 |
42 months or more | 0 |
The ideal work experience window is 18 to 24 months - this fetches the highest score of 14. Freshers and candidates with very long work experience (42+ months) get zero points for this component, though they can still compensate through a strong CAT score and PI performance.
Phase 1: IIM Shillong Minimum CAT Cutoff 2025
To be considered for shortlisting, candidates must clear the minimum sectional percentile in CAT 2025 as per their category:
Category | VARC Percentile | DILR Percentile | QA Percentile |
General / Others (OT) | 75 | 75 | 75 |
EWS | 75 | 75 | 75 |
SC | 60 | 60 | 60 |
ST | 50 | 50 | 50 |
DA (Differently Abled) | 50 | 50 | 50 |
Clearing these sectional cutoffs is the first filter. Candidates who pass this step move on to composite score calculation.
Phase 2: IIM Shillong Shortlisting Criteria
After the PI, the final merit list is prepared using four components:
Component | Weightage |
CAT 2025 Score | 40% |
Personal Interview (PI) | 40% |
Application Rating Score (Academic + Work Ex) | 10% |
Gender Diversity | 10% |
A few important points:
- Gender diversity: Female candidates get an additional 10 points to encourage diversity in the batch.
- There are minimum PI score cutoffs too - General and EWS candidates must score at least 30% in PI, SC candidates need 25%, and ST and DA candidates need 20%.
- Work experience is scored based on duration. The sweet spot is 18-24 months, which fetches the highest score of 14. Freshers (less than 7 months) and those with 42+ months get a score of 0.
IIM Shillong Selection Criteria 2026: Conclusion
To get into IIM Shillong's PGP 2026-28 batch, you need a strong CAT 2025 score above the cutoff, solid academic records, and a good performance in the Personal Interview. The PI carries 40% of the final weightage, making it just as important as your CAT score. Work experience in the range of 18-24 months can also give you an edge in the composite score.
