IIM CAP Cut-off 2026
The IIM Common Admission Process (CAP) 2026 is very different from previous years. Until recently, 8 IIM colleges participated in CAP. However, for the 2026–2028 admission cycle, 4 IIMs opted out and formed JAP. On top of that, IIM Sambalpur and IIM Raipur exited CAP last year and also removed sectional cut-offs (Different admission procedure).
As a result, only three IIMs confirmed and are participating in IIM CAP 2026:
- IIM Bodh Gaya
- IIM Jammu
- IIM Sirmaur
This change has directly impacted the CAP cut-off structure, sectional requirements, and overall competition. If you are planning to apply through CAP, understanding these cut-offs clearly will help you decide where you stand.
This blog explains the official CAP cut-off, expected cut-offs, category-wise and section-wise analysis, and IIM-wise cut-off targets. Let’s get in.

Student tip:
Even if your overall percentile is high, missing any one sectional cut-off will make you ineligible. Always check sectionals first.
Admission is not based on cut-offs, but also on your efficient academic background. The composite score plays a crucial role for admission confirmation.
IIM CAP Section-wise Cut-off Analysis
Sectional cut-offs play a huge role in CAP shortlisting. Unlike some top IIMs (IIMA, IIMB), CAP institutes keep moderate sectional requirements, making them achievable for balanced performers.
As you can already see, the sectional cut-offs in the above sections range between 65 and 75 in general. Also, reservation categories have lower cut-offs giving scope to grow their career.
What the sectional cut-offs tell you
- VARC, DILR, and QA carry equal importance
- No section can be ignored
- QA cut-offs are slightly higher for ST and PwD categories
Section-Wise Comparison (General Category)
| Section | Cut-Off Percentile |
| VARC | 65 |
| DILR | 65 |
| QA | 65 |
Why this matters:
Many students score well overall but lose out due to one weak section. CAP rewards consistency more than sectional brilliance.
Good news:
Earlier, some CAP IIMs had stricter sectionals. With fewer participating institutes, the structure is now more transparent and predictable.
IIM Wise CAP Cut-Off Targets for 2026
Although CAP uses a common shortlisting process, final admission offers are made independently by each IIM.
Likely Safe Percentile Targets (General Category)
| IIM | Safe Overall Percentile |
| IIM Bodh Gaya | 92+ |
| IIM Jammu | 93+ |
| IIM Sirmaur | 92++ |
Important facts you should know:
- Only one PI is conducted even if shortlisted by multiple IIMs
- PI scores are shared, but final merit lists differ
- Academic weightage and diversity points vary by institute
Practical advice:
If your percentile is close to the official cut-off, apply anyway. CAP application fees are lower compared to missing an entire admission cycle.
IIM CAP Cut-off 2026: Conclusion
- CAP 2026 includes only three IIMs
- Official cut-offs are eligibility benchmarks
- Expected cut-offs show real competition levels
- Sectional cut-offs cannot be ignored
- Final admission depends on PI, academics, and profile
If your CAT score meets or is close to these cut-offs, CAP is still a solid opportunity. With fewer IIMs, interviews may feel competitive, but conversion chances improve for candidates with balanced profiles.
Stay calm, prepare well for PI, and keep backup options open. That strategy is always a consistent one. All the best. For more updates on IIMs cut-offs and MBA colleges, do follow our social media platforms.
