Shreyans Prasad Jain Institute of Management and Research (SPJIMR) offers various courses and programmes in management. Out of all these programmes, the Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) is the most sought-after.

Many students doubt whether to apply for this college since the application fee is INR 2000 only for one college. This depends on your situation and various other factors. However, SP Jain has always been among the top 5 to 7 B schools in India.

SP Jain used to be a Mumbai University college. Hence, they were facing several restrictions on what they wanted to teach to their students. They took a bold step to build their brand. In this blog, we will understand the eligibility criteria and admission process for PGDM in SPJIMR.

SP Jain Eligibility Criteria 2024

There are only 3 criteria to be eligible for SPJIMR's PGDM:

  1. You need a bachelor's degree with a minimum of 50% marks or equivalent CGPA in any discipline from a recognized university. The duration of this degree should be a minimum of three years. Moreover, the degree awarded by an institute/university should be recognized by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).
  2. CAT & GMAT entrance scores are accepted.
  3. Freshers can apply for this course. On the other hand, candidates with a maximum of 5 years of work experience as well can apply.

SP Jain Selection Process 2024

Unfortunately, unlike the IIMs, SPJIMR hasn't revealed how much weightage will be given to which element. You need to select from one specialization out of the 4 offered. Finance, Information Management, Marketing and Operations & Supply Chain. You need to state two preferences. They do consider your past background about the preference you are applying to.

They consider five factors for selection:

  1. Overall profile: This includes the overview of your resume i e. your academics, extracurricular, achievements etc.
  2. Academic background: The institute has mentioned that they want consistency in academic performance or at least a growing graph. This means that they are looking for a strong and consistent performance in 10th, 12th, and every year of graduation.
  3. Work Experience: The institute accepts 0 to 5 years of work experience. Any candidate with an experience of more than 5 years will not be accepted into this university. Only relevant work experience after graduation is considered, excluding internships, training, or unpaid work.
  4. Entrance scores: The minimum overall cutoff is 85 percentile in CAT. However, students with the 97+ percentile tend to get into SPJIMR.
  5. Versatility and achievements: This is the area where people with an average academic background also come up. If you have taken part in debates, sports, events, organisations, clubs, etc. or undertaken any extra-curricular activity, it's time to showcase that.

 SP Jain Admission Process 2024

You must fill out the online application form available from September every year. They evaluate the profiles of all applicants and then sort them into two groups: profile-based (1st phase) and Profile-cum-score-based (2nd phase).

First Phase Shortlists

You can also get a profile-based call from SP Jain. This means that you can get through even with a bad CAT attempt. However, it is mandatory to meet the minimum eligibility cutoff in the entrance exam even in case of a profile-based shortlist to appear for the interview.

The shortlist is based on the following factors:

  • Consistency of academic records
  • Relevance of work experience for the specialisation chosen
  • Versatility and achievements

These profile-based calls are given even before the results of the entrance exams are announced. The interviews for profile-based shortlists are generally conducted in December ending and January.

Second Phase Shortlists

You can expect the profile-cum-score-based interviews to happen in February and March after the entrance results are out. They typically offer admission seats to 97 to 98+ percentile students. The shortlist in this category is given based on the following factors:

  • Applicant's profile
  • Academic record
  • CAT/GMAT scores
  • Relevance of work experience (if any)
  • Performance in two rounds of interviews

The interviews are conducted in person. The specialty about SPJIMR is that they conduct group interviews which include 4 to 5 people. They don't have a group discussion or personal interview. However, they consider the following things in the candidate during a group interview:

  • initiative from the candidate
  • thought process
  • openness

The total intake of the PGDM programme is 240. The maximum total intake can go up to 276 seats. Considering the career paths of all the SPJIMR alumnus, we can say that their career growth is similar to those passed out of IIMs. Also don't confuse SPJIMR with SP Jain Global, whose selection process is more lenient. Moreover, the value of the SP Jain Global course is much lower than the SPJIMR course.
