Xavier School of Management (XLRI) Jamshedpur, is an eminent college and one of the best B-schools in the country. XLRI consistently ranks among the top B-schools of the country. In this article, we will look at the admission/selection criteria of XLRI – as per the latest information available on the official website.
The first step towards getting admission into the XLRI, Jamshedpur is taking the Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT). XLRI conducts the online Xavier Aptitude Test in January every year. Over one lakh candidates appear for the XAT exam every year. The final selection at the XLRI is based on various factors like the candidate’s XAT score, Personal Interview etc.

XAT Eligibility Criteria – Candidates should have a recognized Bachelor’s degree of a minimum of three years duration or equivalent, in any discipline. Those in their final year of graduation may also apply.
(All Indian candidates can appear for the XAT exam. However, NRI and foreign candidates may apply either through GMAT score or XAT. )
Registration fee for XAT through XAT / GMAT (based on XAT 2021 fees)
- Indian candidate registering through XAT Rs. 1750/- and Rs 300/- each for every additional programme of XLRI
- Foreign and NRI candidates registering through XAT Rs. 5000/- (for one or more programme(s))
- Indian candidate through GMAT / GRE Rs. 2500/- (only for GMP)

The admission process at XLRI
A candidate may apply for multiple programmes. The selection criteria for different programmes may differ depending on the nature of the programme. Besides performance in the personal interviews (and/or group discussions) and the candidate’s XAT score, the college may also factor in relevant work experience, academic background, extracurricular activities while preparing the final list.
The two major programs at XLRI include:
- PGDM (Human Resource Management Program)
- PGDM (Business Management Program)
The Selection process at XLRI is broadly divided into two stages:
Stage 1 – In the first stage, candidates are shortlisted for the interviews on the basis of their XAT score.
Stage 2 – The second stage is where the college selects based on the GD, WAT, and Personal Interview (PI). A Final Score is calculated for the Selection, and the final selection list will be made.

Admission criteria for the PGDM-HRM and PGDM-BM Programs
Eligibility: Recognized Bachelor’s degree of minimum three years duration or equivalent, in any discipline. Those in their final year of graduation may also apply.
For each program, the program fee stands at around Rs. 11.80 lakh per annum.
Selection Criteria
Stage 1: The candidates are shortlisted based on their entrance test scores.
Stage 2: Interview Process
- The interview for HRM / BM candidates through XAT and GMAT, is conducted between mid-February and March. And the final selection will be made based on the performance of the candidates in the interview.
Total intake
The intake for the BM program and HR program is 360, and for the GMP program is 120.
