What average number of children per house?

Solution

Total number of houses = 3 + 13 + 18 + 3 = 37

Total children = $$(0 \times 3) + (1 \times 13) + (2 \times 18) + (3 \times 3)$$

= 13 + 36 + 9 = 58

$$\therefore$$ Average number of children per house = $$\frac{58}{37} = 1.57$$
