In each of these questions, two equations are given. You have to solve these equations and nd out the values of x and y and :
Give answer
a:if x < y
b: if x > y
c: if x ≤ y
d: if x ≥ y
e: if x = y

Question 97

I. 4x + 7y = 209
II. 12x- 14y = - 38

Solution

I : 4x + 7y = 209

II : 12x - 14y = -38

Multiplying equation (1) by 2 and adding both equations, we get :

=> $$(8x + 14y) + (12x - 14y) = 418 - 38$$

=> $$20x = 380$$

=> $$x = \frac{380}{20} = 19$$

Now, substituting value of x in equation (1)

=> $$(4 \times 19) + 7y = 209$$

=> $$7y = 209 - 76 = 133$$

=> $$y = \frac{133}{7} = 19$$

$$\therefore x = y$$
